00 - A1 - 112909 - Falconry in Beeville Texas

Okay, so I met a Licensed Falconer on Saturday 11/28/09. He was working a Harris Hawk in a field and I had to stop and talk to him. His name is Anthony Yanta and he works in Beeville. I introduced myself and we talked birds and photography, then I asked if I might be able to "practice" my flight shots sometime and he said, sure!!! Wow, what a treat for me. It's cool to shoot a bird in the wild, but it's really cool to shoot a bird this way. Yes, the bird, "Leah" has a "jess" tied to one leg and a bell on the other. She is also equipped with a radio transmitter. She seems to like the situation and did not appear stressed, she seemed very attached to Anthony, probably cause of the treats he had....hehehe..... Anthony has only had the bird a little over a month, but she very tuned into the commands that are given. It was so awesome to watch and experience. Leah decided she liked my car and landed on it immediately. She was very interested in my lens, but by-passed it a couple of times. She wanted to use it as a perch, but would pick the tree that was a little higher behind me. Anthony would take her out in the field and walk back towards me calling her when he got close. I had a bad time keeping in focus as she was coming at me, but I got a few good shots. Took over 300 photos and culled out over 130 bad shots and 100 rejects, but these and the ones I posted on line seem okay. A story had been done on Anthony's partner a couple of years ago by the paper, but Anthony wasn't available for the story...I think I remember reading it. But this was an experience of a lifetime to me. Anthony eventually releases the bird and she will be wild within a few days. So there is no fear of domestication. He is very experienced at this gift....!! My life is a constant adventure. God always puts so many awesome creatures and special folks in my life to be able share with you all too.....Be blessed and enjoy the gifts God gives us.....sylvia
