00 - A1 - 032110 - Choke Canyon State Park

I went out today to do the bluebonnet field I found in Live Oak County and reshot with the morning light. I think you will agree with me that they are a bit nicer. I took several shots and angles and had so much fun I didn't want to leave, but I had to. I was out there an hour hiking about a half a mile to the spot I wanted to use and then the hiking back. It was still cold, about 45 degrees with the wind blowing about 25mph, so the chill factor was cold too. Anyways, the cows were watching me, especially one bull, but he stayed away......after the shoot, I drove up FM 1596 towards FM 799 and found a herd of Buffalo and got a couple of shots of one of them....that was cool.....then I proceeded to Choke Canyon and had a blast there....I hit the jackpot with the Caracara. There must have been 100 of them in an area that is restricted to park visitors. There were over 200 carrion eaters in the same area. I'd been watching several (over 30 of the Caracara) flying back and forth, bunches of young ones and I was getting shots of them as I hiked up. I got some good flight shots.....I went thru the salt cedar and brush (thank goodness it's still too cold for snakes) and found a blind in one area and a road....and the Caracara were not as skiddish as I'm use to seeing.....something was up....they allowed me to get closer than I'm use to....but I didn't mine it, I got a few good shots.....I found the area where all the birds were....tons of them and they were busy eating.....wow!! I was able to get really close....one bird was a hawk, but I can't ID it, if anyone out there can help me, I'd appreciate it. After a bit, I hiked back out, knowing I interrupted their feast and they wanted me to leave....so I grudgingly left the park at 1:45p and made it home....What an awesome day....thank You Father for allowing me to see Your wonderdous gifts....be blessed all, don't hesitate to enjoy the blessings you are given too!!.........sylvia :-)
