Day 47Â Â Â 06/18/11
A much better day at the ranch this morning. I got out there at 7am and drove around the Family Pond area looking at the “dry pond”. What a shame, but God will bless us with rain in His time, not ours.
I proceeded up to the Runway and drove around there ended up at the base of Jackrabbit hill. I noticed 4 rabbits and I carefully got out of the truck, got my gear and started up the hill. I spied an old rabbit that hadn’t seen me yet and got a few photos of him as he ate grass and such. He finally saw me and took off to the next field. I decided to hike around the hill and do it slow. I found the rabbits were a bit more accepting of me. I had one that was bathing in the grass/dirt and just kept it’s eye on me. It finally took off when I got too close, but I got a few photos of it. I did see about 8 rabbits in all on the hill.
I decided to drive up to the Fishing Hole and see what I could see there. I drove on up to an area that’s deep. I stopped, got my gear and hiked to the end of the creek where a swing gate shows the ranch boundary. It was cool here, “cool” as in an awesome place to set up. I set up my chair and speakers and spent about a half hour here. I saw a Green Kingfisher fly by, but no stopping, it was fast too, wow!!
I then hiked back up to the fishing hole at the rock bridge and saw my “prey”. A Green Kingfisher at a branch. I hurriedly hiked back to my truck and picked up my gear and drove back. I clipped away some branches and sat down for the duration. This was about 10am. I sat patiently waiting until the birdie came up to a branch across from me and just went at it with the camera….!! In 3 minutes I took 128 photos, he just sat there and posed. It was awesome, thank You Father!!
A Cuckoo bird came up afterwards, but was too far for good stuff and too busy a background to use for entries. I hung out until 11:30am and finally left. It was getting warm and I was getting hungry. I really need to start bringing snacks…hmmmm….Blessings to all…sylvia
